Family with customers

Founded in 2000 by  Barry Thackrah, he identified that local users of fork lift trucks were increasingly growing frustrated at the level of service they were getting from the major manufactures. He always dreamed of working for himself and having previously worked for Lansing (linde) he knew the trucks inside out. His background was in engineering, college lecturering and developing young engineers so he took a chance, gave up his job and went out talking to potential customers in order to build up the work he could.

Fast forward to 2005, the company already a diverse customer base centred on loyalty and a personal experience. David Thackrah joined who had completed a engineering apprenticeship with Caterpillar in mechanical engineering and joined as a service engineer. Barry carried out the electrical repairs and David carried out the mechanical repairs. The business became more productive as it enabled IVS to stop using mechanical engineering subcontractors.

A couple of years on and further to taking on another engineer to enable us to carry out the expanding work, David had an accident and was unable to work with his hands for a number of months. IVS found it difficult to function as a business as we were reliant of chargeable work per engineer so became the birth back office administration. In hindsight it was one of the best things that could have happened.

He devoted his time to sourcing parts, speaking more with customers and developing the business from an office based environment. That gave us the opportunity to push forward and develop internal departments which then gave the opportunity to bring on another engineer.

​

Many, many years later and present day, we are still the same family business and we still stand for the same honesty, integrity and value for money. A member of the forklift truck association, our 30 plus growing team members are handpicked, the hardest working and committed to take our customers to the next level.
